Born on March 16, 1889 in Columbus, Ohio, Janis performed at Macauley's Theatre five times between 1908 and 1920, including in "The Fair Co-Ed" in March 1910, likely the occasion for the inscription of this portrait. Inscription on print, lower center: To "Mr. Macauley" most sincerely, Elsie Janis, 1910.
