Janice At The Beach. 1960s Vintage Kodachrome Slides
Okay. We're getting close.
Okay, we're in the home-stretch of Janice's adolescence.
This group of slides were taken between about 1957 and 1963. Janice turned 17 in 1959.
Janice was Vicky's older sister, and of course, with most first-born children, they get most of the pub.
Janice's artsy mom photographer that took those awesome pictures of Vicky, and the other cool pictures in the Long Beach Set, documented Janice's adolescence and subsequent marriage.

Unhappy Bob 1960s Vintage Kodachrome Slides
Introducing: Bob. Bob was kind of a melancholy looking kid.
Bob was Janice's steady in high school and college, and they went to every dance and party you can think of- Bob was like part of the family. Bob eventually pinned Janice. I have no idea whether Janice got to go to college or not, but in some of the pictures, you can clearly see his fraternity pin on her breast.

This is Janice's aunt. Compared to Janice's mom, she's a wildcat. There's a really weird pic in the Long Beach set where she's crouching in the bushes.

Take A Boy Fishing Today
Back of found packaging, "Ideal Split-Shot" 1950s?
"Split-Shot" is a little lead weight that you attach to your fishing line to "sink" it. Hence, they are also called "Sinkers." They are soft and "split" down the middle so you can squeeze them onto your line. Remember?
I used to pinch and blister my fingers as a little boy trying to squeeze that lead with needle-nose pliers!

I don't know what that paper thing is, but this is a pretty short dress for a normally conservative Janice, and looks like upholstery fabric leftovers.

"Call it fate... A while ago, I found a photo I immediately fell in love with, showing a cute little girl with her adorable dog.

By coincidence, I stumbled across two more pics of the lovely duo on one of my research-nights at ebay. I was SO happy to find them and had to buy them immediately. Those are the moments that every collector's heart loves and this is that makes our passion so exciting.
Photo taken around 1900. Photographer unknown."

"I Am Become Death, The Destroyer Of Worlds"
Oppenheimer Bhagavad Gita (analysis)
"Kalo Asmi Loka-ksaya-krit Pravardho, Lokan Samartum iha Pravattah"
The quote is indeed from the Bhagavad Gita ("Song of the lord"). Some suggest it's a misquote, which would explain the peculiar grammar; but "am become" is not an error but a (poetic) archaism, as in "I am become a name, for always roaming with a hungry heart" (Tennyson,Ulysses). Which in turn might be a trace of French; "Je suis devenu la mort".
Since Oppenheimer was proficient in sanskrit he read the original text, and the translation is his own; I haven't found any other translation with "am become". It certainly gives a certain something to the line, however, and it might had been at least somewhat less well known had it been "I am death" or "I have become death".
Here's the verse in question with a little context (translated by Ramanand Prasad). Prince Arjuna hesitates to attack the enemy with his army; Vishnu, in the incarnation of Krishna, encourages him, and motivates him by explaining how the world works, with reincarnations, Brahman, Maya etc. Arjuna asks to see Vishnu in his "cosmic", i.e. real, form, a wish that is granted. The overwhelmed Arjuna asks:
Tell me who are You in such a fierce form? My salutations to You, O best of gods, be merciful! I wish to understand You, the primal Being, because I do not know Your mission.
The Supreme Lord said: I am death, the mighty destroyer of the world, out to destroy. Even without your participation all the warriors standing arrayed in the opposing armies shall cease to exist.
Therefore, get up and attain glory. Conquer your enemies and enjoy a prosperous kingdom. All these (warriors) have already been destroyed by Me. You are only an instrument, O Arjuna.
Bhagavad Gita, chapter 11, verses 31-33

1950s Paris- Herce, or Death Coach Vintage Kodachrome
1950s Kodachrome Diapositive
found/photographer unknown
From CarLust:
First, as a bit of etymological pedantry, the term hearse derives originally from the old French term herce harrow, which was a framed farm implement holding teeth or tines and used as something like a plow. Middle English later co-opted the shortened form, herse, to refer to a stand that held candles during the Christian Tenebrae service and eventually came to mean a structure that held candles or hangings that were suspended above a coffin. This association with coffins eventually made its way to the modern form, signifying a vehicle for conveying a dead person to the place of burial. Early hearses were horse-drawn affairs, which is why modern hearses are still often referred to as 'coaches'.
